Water content and transpiration dynamics for apple varieties in the arid conditions of the Western Kazakhstan

Studying the peculiarities of the water status of fruit plants allows revealing the mechanism’s of adaptation of introduced species to the arid conditions, their relationship with the development phases and productivity of varieties. The paper presents for the first time the results of a study of leaf water content and intensity of transpiration of 10 introduced apple varieties in their daily and seasonal dynamics. Under the conditions of drop irrigation, a sharp increase in the intensity of transpiration in the middle of the day was revealed for all varieties, as well as fluctuations in the water content of leaves and the intensity of transpiration during the vegetative season associated both with extreme values of air temperature and humidity, and with the phases of growth and development of varieties. In seasonal dynamics, from one to three peaks of water content and transpiration intensity have been noted. The maximum water content of the leaves was observed in May, the maximum transpiration intensity was observed at different times from June to August and for the most productive varieties - on 20th of June. By the amount of transpirating moisture consumption, apple varieties are classified as medium- and low-transpirative.
