Investigation of the protective role of grape seed extracts against cefotaxime in albino mice

We tried to investigate and prove the effect of grape seed extracts (GSE) on sperm morphology against Cefotaxime, which causes sperm abnormalities in Albino Mice. We used thirty animals were divided into three groups. The first group was the untreated control that was administered intramuscularly for six days with 0.5 ml distilled water once daily. The second group was the positive control group that was administered intramuscularly with 0.2 ml cefotaxime (520 mg / kg b. w) only daily six days. The third group was divided into three subgroups and treated orally for ten days with three separate doses of GSEs (50, 75, 100 mg / kg b.w) (0.1 ml / day), and then administered cefotaxime intramuscularly for six days with 0.2 ml daily. We found that the levels of total sperm defects in the combined group (100 mg / kg GSE + 520 mg / kg cefatoximen) decreased significantly compared with the first and second groups and cefatoximen group. However, in the combined group (100 mg / kg+520 mg / kg cefatoximen) there was a decrease in tail abnormalities relative to the first and second groups and cefatoximen group. In Conclusion, It may be concluded that grape GSEs act as a potential antioxidant to reduce defects in the sperm. Such findings show that the combination of GSE treatment with cefotaxime is more effective than cefotaxime treatment alone.
