Efficacy of the aphid parasitoid lysiphlebus fabarum (marshall) to control aphis craccivora (KOCH)

The present study was conducted to show the efficiency of parasitoid Lysiphlebus fabarum to control aphid A. craccivora in the laboratory and the field. The present study was conducted to survey and population density of aphid Aphis craccivora (Koch.) infesting Cowpea plants and its parasitoids during two season 2018 and 2019. The efficiency and biological aspects of parasitoid Lysiphlebus fabarum on A. craccivora in the laboratory and the field. Three primary parasitoids;. Lysiphlebus fabrium and Trioxis sp and a hyperparasitoid, Pachyneuron sp . were recorded. The primary parasitoid Lysiphlebus fabarum was the most dominant species with mean relative densities 69.09 and 63.26 % during 2018 and 2019 seasons respectively. While Trioxys sp. was 19.22 and 20.83%, respectively, the Aphidencertus sp. was represented by 11.69 and 15.91%, respectively. The percentage of parasitism ranged from 1.69 to 19.11%in 2018, while it is starting by 0.90 % to reach its maximum 13.80% in 2019. With the increase of parasitoid density, the percentage of parasitism increased to reach a maximum of 31.1% for L. fabrium at 12 parasitoid/200 aphids per jar in laboratory and a minimum of 6.6% % at two parasitoid per jar. Meanwhile, the highest percentage of parasitism was 82%for L. fabrium at 20 parasitoids / 200 aphids per cage in semi-field test, a minimum of 50.8% recorded at five parasitoids per cage on A. craccivora. Statistical analysis showed that temperature and relative humidity were significant with some insects and insignificant with the others. The obtained results revealed that the aphid parasitoids Lysiphlebus fabarum could be recommended as biocontrol agents against aphid Aphis craccivora under Egyptian field conditions in IPM program designed.
